Liseberg: Klubbland
‘Klubbland - I huvudet på Håkan Hellström’ (‘In the Head of Håkan Hellström') is an interactive tribute to Swedish rock star Håkan Hellstrom at Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Whilst virtually unknown outside of Scandinavia, Håkan Hellström is the Swedish Elvis Presley meets Bruce Springsteen meets Bob Dylan. He’s literally a household name and reaches out to people of all backgrounds and ages. Klubbland is a collaboration between Whoa Dad!, Håkan’s record label, and Liseberg. Hello! was commissioned to design and project manage the attraction from initial concept through to commissioning including responsibility for
The Visitor Experience The attraction opens with a immersive 180 degree animated movie giving an introduction to Håkan’s universe before visitors are automatically let into a display showing his childhood in Gothenburg and his musical influences such as punk, skate culture, mods and metal. In a ‘video tent’ visitors can relax in comfortable chairs while watching a 12 minute collage of his videos. The ‘Jazz House’ venue, the centre of the indie scene in the city around year 2000 is recreated with concert movies and original poster artwork. Also on display is the original sailor costume: Håkan Hellströms trademark. The next zone tells the story of each of his 12 albums. Visitors get to see the original cover artwork, instruments and costumes – and even rejection letters from record labels and photographs and artwork that never made it on the cover. In a record studio setting visitors can sing along to their favourite Håkan song, and try their hand a producing a tune. His legions of loyal fans and followers are represented in a ‘fan splash’ installation where fan letters and quotes are displayed. In a green screen installation fans can take a selfie with him, and email it to friends - or try the ‘Håkan Quiz’. Iconic costumes from his countless live performances are displayed together with original instruments and a presentation of his band members. The grand finale – and the largest room in the attraction – is a presentation of a live stadium concert in Gothenburg in the summer of 2016. For two nights he preformed before over 140.000 people, which is a national record. In this multi media show a collage of the performers are projected onto the walls while projections of the audience are behind the visitor, giving a feeling of actually being present at the concert. The lighting design in the venue was carefully planned to mimic the expression of the movies. The concert ends and visitors leave the attraction to the sound of euphoric roars and clapping from the concert and exit though the giftshop, whilst still feeling suitably elated. The giftshop wax also designed by Hello! and in the same look and feel of the attraction. Credit Media was produced by Is This It, the company behind many of Håkan’s videos. Kiss The Frog was responsible for the interactive features and Music City for the show control and AV equipment. Lighting design by Johan Johan Lidström. Liseberg's inhouse workshops was in charge of carpentry and prints. |
